Reading or listening to my teaching the truths of Christian Science will not do for you what the constant seeking and knowing and following will do for you. Mary Baker Eddy (Oakes, Richard, Course In Divinity and General Collectanea, p.276)

Hence the ignorance of mythology, the crime of persecution, the darkness and doubt which have been the results of this error in the premise, which took the Science of God and cast lots for it, giving a part only of its beauty, holiness and harmony to each belief. . . . Had religion been taught in the Science of God, then it would not have been rent, as Truth, or Christ, prophesied that its garment would be, even after his teachings of Science and the final demonstration thereof. But error has parted the robe of righteousness and garment of Truth which healed the sick, and cast out devils, casting lots for its vesture. This reckoning between the material and spiritual to decide what is Truth and what is error, or what is out of matter in Science, or what is in matter which is belief — is just what today is agitating the globe, and that very controversy which Truth, through the man Jesus, held of old with the priest and doctors. The Christ of theology is an official personality. From this error of belief first arose the creed of Romanism which instituted a pope to pardon sin, naturally supposing that if Jesus, who was a man, forgave sin, so might another man forgive sin also. Herein we see that the one fatal mistake which has destroyed the understanding of what Christ is, was a matter idea throughout, first with the Jews and ever thereafter with all religious sects, taking the letter instead of the spirit of the Word. Your inquiry – what is the wedding garment? – embraces a long answer, but I can name its hem for you to touch. It is first, the desire above all to be Christ-like, to be tender, merciful, forgetting self, and caring for others’ salvation; to be temperate, humble, pure, whereby appetite and passion cease to claim your attention and you are not discouraged to wait on God – to wait for the tests of your sincerity – longing to be good, and seeking through daily prayer for divine teaching. If you continue to ask, you will receive, providing you comply with what you must do for yourself; in order to be thus blessed. Mary Baker Eddy (Oakes, Richard, Course In Divinity and General Collectanea, p.276)

This false theory or Adamic error, was ruled out from the presence of God, Truth, to dwell in the land of Nod, the land of dreams and illusion. Error, named Adam, was the foundation of this mythical creation, and the belief still continues, namely, that man is matter, hence the image of God mortal. Spirit created all things. Man created from matter is mythological; with dust, a rib, and Cain’s mother for his wife, alas! who shall say that a monkey was not our great-great-grandfather?
