Once one of Mrs. Eddy’s splendid students was tempted to run away from Boston, because he felt he was being made sick by the envy and malpractice directed at him.  She wrote: “The belief that scares you is your own hand uplifted against yourself.  Put it down.  Neither you nor she can fight against Truth, the Truth that good is your life, and doing good you sustain it; but fearing evil, you lose it. Stay in Boston and vicinity always if you please.  I know you can master it, the lie, there as well as elsewhere.  To run before a lie is to accept its terms.  This works like running before the enemy in battle.  You will be followed, pursued, till you face about, trust in God  and stand on Spirit, denying and facing and fighting all the claims of matter and mortal mind, both one.”   Mary Baker Eddy   (Carpenter, Gilbert Jr., 500 Watching Points, #272)

August 19, 1903. Mr. K. asked, ‘When you reach a place where you have done everything you know to do or what to do, desiring, striving for divine guidance and it does not seem to come, and discouragement comes in and causes you to doubt your ability to grasp it, what do you do?’ Mrs. Eddy replied, ‘Shut out the senses and take side with God; if it comes to you that you do not know which is the side with God, turn to Him ALONE, shutting out everything else; this is the way.’   Mary Baker Eddy   (Oakes, Richard, Course in Divinity and General Collectanea, p.10)

To conclude persecution for righteousness’ sake belongs to the past, and that Christianity to-day is at peace with the world, honored by sects and societies, is to mistake its Very nature. History will repeat itself; the trials of prophet, disciple, and apostle, those of whom “the earth was not worthy,” await, in some form, the pioneers of Truth.   (Eddy, Mary Baker, Science and Health, 1st ed., p.305)

Christian martyr of the nineteenth century, does it wrong thee one half as much? then remember, it is enough for thee “that the servant should be as his Lord,” and that you be found worthy to unloose the sandals of thy Master’s faith.   (Eddy, Mary Baker, Science and Health, 1st ed., p.305)

In other words, are ignorant of the Principle of being; their father, on earth and in heaven, being personality instead of Principle; ignorant, also, of the origin of man, his nature and true existence. The world of error is blind to the Truth of man, and the world of sense, to Life that is Soul. Jesus was neither understood in his origin, his nature, or works; not one component part of his being did the world of sense get right. Even his righteousness and purity hindered not the accusation, he is Beelzebub, the chief of sinners, a glutton, and the friend of the impure.   (Eddy, Mary Baker, Science and Health, 1st ed., p.304)
